2007 Boys Season Preview

Many of you may have read the article, “Foothills in Running to Repeat, Kessler Believes” from the Arizona Daily Star on Sunday, August 26. It mentioned many people in it’s preseason watch list. This article failed to acknowledge a few people who may give some headaches to these preseason favorites come race day like Ironwood Ridge junior Anthony Li who had a good showing in the State track meet. There were also a couple of other “800” guys, Catalina’s Alex Morris and Saguaro senior Brett Casale. A few others who had strong performances in the state track meet back in May were Catalina senior Joe Matz and CDO senior Kyle Bush.
On the team side, I would also watch out for the two sophomores from Salpointe and their senior leader Jackson Messer. You also do not want to forget about Ironwood Ridge as team with a 5th place finish in the boys 4x800 and only losing one senior from that group, they could be a force and there is the ever consistent Rio Rico that should not be forgotten.
The season will start Wednesday, August 29 and it will feature an early season showdown between Salpointe and Sabino who look to be favorites in there respective regions and may offer a little early insight into the season as to who is the best in the city.
